I would like to thank the patients of Keystone Acupuncture & Wellness Center who most graciously took the time and energy to share their experiences with acupuncture. These stories are presented here for the purpose of educating and inspiring others on their own healing paths.

“I suffered from migraine headaches for about 15 years. While seeing improvement from these headaches from various forms of treatment, from medications to changes in diet, I had never really experienced permanent relief for an extended period of time. A friend had recommended acupuncture after seeing positive results from an acupuncturist who had treated them for sinus problems. I was a little skeptical at first, wondering how sticking a needle in my head could relieve my problems. I may have been skeptical, but now I am glad I gave it a try. After my first treatment with Ruth, I not only experienced fewer migraines, but I also went the longest period of time without having to reach for drugs to seek relief from the headaches. The first treatment I received involved acupuncture in pressure points all over my body. What had surprised me was that all the attention was not placed on my head, but throughout other areas of my body. Ruth had informed me that it is good to totally detoxify the body by concentrating on various points all over the body. After the first treatment I immediately felt calmer and relaxed. This has continued for the last four months that I have received treatment on a monthly basis. I was truly amazed at how much relief this treatment has provided me because I really didn’t think there was anything left that could help me with these migraines except for medications. I may have been a little skeptical about acupuncture initially, but now I am promoting its benefits to others”

“I came to see Ruth at Keystone Acupuncture after she came highly recommended by a friend. I was having trouble with arthritis in my foot, and after taking medications and having a special foot orthotic custom made for my foot with no relief, I decided to give acupuncture a try. Acupuncture is painless. It actually gives you a feeling of calmness, and you feel so relaxed. There is no discomfort whatsoever.
I found Ruth to be very friendly, professional and caring about her clients.
I not only got relief from my arthritis, I also saw so much improvement in my overall health. My migraine headaches are gone, and I have no more trouble with sinus issues.
I would highly recommend Ruth to anyone.
Give it a try, you have nothing to lose except the pain you have!”

“After suffering with severe headaches for many years (which were constant) with no relief from any medications, no matter the quantities, I pushed aside my skepticism about acupuncture and scheduled an appointment with Ruth.
Upon my arrival, with a very bad headache, I explained my condition to Ruth and she gave me my first treatment. When I sat up I had no headache and was without any pain of any kind for six weeks.
I come in frequently for a tune up, I still get headaches, but nothing as bad as before.
With the treatments, I feel great.”

“I am so glad that my daughter convinced me to go to an acupuncturist for my leg problems. I had been having quite a lot of muscle cramps, mostly at night, for about one year. The problem finally got to the point that I was seeking alternate therapy. My doctor wanted to give me some prescription but I didn’t want to have to take any more medicine than I already take. After two visits with Ruth my legs quit cramping and my back felt much better. After four visits I no longer have any problems with my legs and the bulging disks in my lower back do not hurt any more.
Ruth is such a nice, calm and charming person that she makes you feel better by just talking with her. I must say after every visit I feel very refreshed and ready to go on with the day.
I also have a lot of problems with anxiety and insomnia. Acupuncture has helped this condition tremendously. I have very few panic attacks anymore and am starting to feel calmer.
I no longer crawl out of bed in the morning with the many aches and pains that come with age and hope to continue seeing Ruth as necessary. Many Thanks.”
“For over 4 years I suffered with a swollen left foot. I consulted with many doctors including my family physician, podiatrist, vascular specialist and physical therapist, to name a few. I underwent 6 weeks of physical therapy, wore an ace bandage for weeks at a time and even slept with support hose. To no avail- the swelling never subsided.
In August I began to receive acupuncture. Almost immediately the swelling began to subside.
I look forward to my appointments- I always leave the office feeling as though I have spent time with a counselor, physician, and massage therapist all in one visit.
I would recommend (and I have!) acupuncture to anyone suffering with a variety of ailments!”

“My Acupuncture Story? Really, it is kind of a sleeper. That is not to suggest that the story is uninteresting, but rather that is was a sleep disorder that brought me to acupuncture and the Keystone Acupuncture & Wellness Center.
The symptoms I experienced were a racing mind that awakened me almost nightly and frequent, sometimes extreme, tiredness during the day. My family and friends kidded me about my twice daily naps; my physician ordered a sleep study.
The sleep study yielded some interesting findings; restless leg syndrome and sleep apnea. Medication was prescribed for the restless leg syndrome; a CPAP machine was ordered to remedy the apnea. The medication helped; CPAP really didn’t.
Knowing that Ruth Busko had recently opened her clinic I decided to contact her and give acupuncture a try. That was a good choice; one with positive results.
The first appointment was for two hours; Ruth took a medical history, oriented me to acupuncture, and then began the first treatment. And, no, it didn’t hurt!
Some acupuncture points are more sensitive than others. I typically feel almost nothing when the needles are inserted; something I attribute to Ruth’s tender touch! At some points the needles are inserted and quickly withdrawn; at others they are left in for ten minutes or so while I am left to relax! It is a relaxing experience and I always leave feeling better than when I arrive.
Yes, I am sleeping better; there are other positive results, too. At a recent session I told Ruth about an uncomfortable sensation I was experiencing at the back of my jaw; something my physician was unable to diagnose or treat. Ruth came to my rescue; after hearing my description and taking my pulses (one of her diagnostic techniques) she found just the right acupuncture points to work with. A day or two later my discomfort was gone! A coincidence? Perhaps; probably not! What else? Fewer and less severe sinus headaches, a generally better and more even mood, and a greater feeling of wellbeing!
So, is my Acupuncture Story a sleeper? I’ll let you decide!”

“Acupuncture is wonderful! Ruth is excellent, and the treatment is comfortable and very relaxing. My knee and shoulder improved by almost 100%. I’m very pleased and highly recommend Keystone.”

“Acupuncture helped me to get my life back at 58 years of age after 8 years of chronic pain due to a fall while running very fast in clogs to catch a connecting flight! At the time of the incident, I was very active and enjoyed a strong, healthy, trim body with endless energy. That day, I broke my hand, popped 2 disks in my cervical spine and injured my shoulder. I walked the floors for 2 years unable to get comfortable enough to sleep much. I faithfully employed physical therapy, took anti-inflammatory drugs daily for years, had cortisone injections periodically and used other modalities recommended by conventional medicine.
Over the years, a wonderful chiropractor was able to give me enough relief from the painful pinched nerve, so I could continue to work as a nurse in a limited capacity. However, over time, the chronic pain zapped my energy, and I suffered complications from the medication which had to be discontinued. Because of these injuries, coupled with the progression of osteoarthritis, I wasn’t able to maintain my exercise regime. I had to progressively cut back on my hours of employment and eventually had to retire in the spring of 2008 due to pain and fatigue.
Thankfully, good people I met along the way led me to Ruth Busko [Wegmann] who intently listened to my story of woe and developed a treatment plan. Given the expert care by my chiropractor over the years, my own research into eastern medicine and Ruth’s apparent expertise, I was hopeful. I noted considerable muscle skeletal relief after my first visit and an improvement in blood pressure! During the second visit, Ruth also focused on relieving the gastric distress caused by years of medication. That week I was able to successfully discontinue the Nexium which probably was decreasing the absorption of nutrients and supplements. (This was something I had tried to do on my own many times in vain.)
I was feeling better and grateful/satisfied with the results, although the nerve pain that had tracked from my neck down my back and in my arm since 2001 persisted, albeit to a much lesser extent. Ruth, hopeful/confident that I could improve even further, asked me to consider an East Asian technique called Gua Sha from this problem. I accepted the related literature and told her I would think about it and discuss this with my spouse. Having enjoyed such remarkable results, we agreed that I should try it.
I was astounded by the relief I realized in the areas where Ruth worked just 2 days following my appointment! I returned for Gua Sha treatents twice more and I can honestly say that for the first time in 8 years, the pain tracking in this area is all but gone!!!!!!! Not only had I found a very competent, knowledgeable acupuncturist, I found a warm, insightful, wise health care provider who is willing to go the extra mile to help me be the best I can be! Thank you Ruth! I look forward to a long and lasting relationship. P.S. I have recently been able to resume working part time as a nurse!”

“I originally began acupuncture treatment several years ago with a provider located in Middletown. The drive from Carlisle to Middletown and back often negated the positive effects of the acupuncture treatment. In fact, I often told my previous provider that she should move closer to Carlisle. The commute finally became too much and I stopped treatments.
I was very pleased when my massage therapist mentioned that Ruth was providing acupuncture services in Carlisle. Although I sometimes need some time to feel comfortable with a new provider, Ruth put me at ease immediately.
Acupuncture has been very beneficial to me in that my career is very stressful. The calming effect of an acupuncture session lasts for several days after a session – I am still working on reducing the stress in my life so that I can have that calming effect all the time!
I have also recommended acupuncture to several friends who have found the treatments beneficial. As someone who works in the healthcare system, I firmly believe that acupuncture is a wonderful complimentary therapy in addition to traditional medicine.”
